Giveaway Designs finished

I've finished the designs for (Heidi) HiHo and (Sue)GossemerCreations. Both were the lucky winners of my recent giveaway at VintageWindow. Sue, picked a current design in my Etsy Store and Heidi wanted a custom mat for Humphrey. Here are the floorcloths. They still need a couple more coats of sealer. Ladies these will be shipped out by week's end.

Seasonal Strawberries and Thanks Nancy!!

Here's a sneak peek at my latest design. Strawberries are in season and what better way to celebrate than to paint a few for your kitchen.

Nursery Wallhanging and Sweet Treats

New in the shop this week. A Custom Wallhanging for your child's nursery. The one pictured was inspired by Precious Moments. I am able to custom design one to match the decor of your child's nursery.

I've added a dowel rod at the top and attached matching ribbon.
The bottom also has a dowel rod for added weight, allowing the wall hanging to hang straight.

I'm now a member of Design Style Guide Team Tennessee.
Our team members met for the first time on Saturday morning at The Factory in Franklin, TN. Most of us are from the Greater Nashville area and each offer a different art form. I will be showcasing each of the designers works over the next couple of weeks. I look forward to getting to know each of the artist in the group. Each one is a creative talent in their medium. We've already scheduled a second meeting within the next week and have a big project in the near future.

I've been back in the studio and wanted to share with you a sneak peek at my latest floorcloth rug. This one is inspired by a retro canister I have in my kitchen.

It's a work in progress and hopefully I'll be done with the painted design this afternoon and then it will be ready to start sealing. I'll post the finished rug in a later post. If you like retro designs I think you'll like this kitchen mat.

Also new in the shop is a brown/blue/green plaid rug. This one has a textured/raised design.

Would you like some cheese with your wine?

Okay, I didn't put cheese in this floorcloth, but there is plenty of wine.

The newest design in my Etsy shop was painted for a client who's kitchen is accented with wine and grapes. She has a tuscany style kitchen.

She will see it for the first time on wednesday. I'll let you know if she is happy.

The background is painted the colors of a vibrant Tuscan Sunset.

New in the shop this week.

My plan is to do a complete line of Wild Jungle themed floorcloths.
This one is my tiger floorcloth. It measures 2'x3'. Perfect size for a bathmat or doormat. I plan to do this same design in different colors.
Pink w/ black, blue w/black, brown/blue, black/gold.......got any color combo suggestions?

Floorcloth Retro Style!

I love retro colors and designs. My latest floorcloth was inspired by my research of retro fabric samples, but using some of the current color combo trends. Brown/Blue seems to be very popular now. I'll be adding similar designs in my shop soon.

Here is my latest floorcloth. It's available in my Etsy Shop.

The floorcloth measures 2'x3' perfect size for a kitchen or bath mat. Painted in chocolate brown, light blue and tan.

I will also be adding some atomic designs (thanks Nancy for the wonderful ideas). Not sure how they will sell, but I know I'll have fun painting them and coming up with different styles.

New Item.....Hawaiian Hibiscus

New design in my Etsy Shop. Inspired by an Hawaiian shirt.

Painted with a black background and white hibiscus flowers with jet black outlines.
I can paint this particular design any color combo. I will have more color options listed in the shop soon.

The floorcloth measures 2'x3' (perfect size for a kitchen sink mat, bath mat or doormat). It can also be custom made if you need a larger rug. I can also do this design in placemats and table runners.

Fleur De Lis and scrollwork Placemats. Black background with white scrolls and gold highlites. Once again, the color combo can be custom painted to fit your needs. This design can also be painted with a matching table runner or floorcloth.

New Designs

Hope everyone is doing well and keeping warm. Are you ready for spring? I'm so over winter and ready for the sun to shine. The temp here today made it up to 68 degrees, but it sure didn't feel like it. We had winds like crazy and it was very overcast. I'm not complaining it could of been cold and snowing. (always thinking positive).

I did manage to paint some new items this week and hopefully will have my Etsy Shop undated soon.

The first is a primitive pig place mat.

The next floor mat is actually for a dog, Bubba. His owners wanted a mat to place under his food/water dish. They wanted something fun and playful. Here is what I come up with.

Here is the last one. I finished this floorcloth a couple days ago. My inspiration was a clients tile work in her kitchen. I hope she likes it. It will be delivered to her tomorrow. Kind of has a Tuscany feel. I love the colors. I'm also offering this one in my Etsy Shop.

Painted Placemats

I wanted to share with everyone a new item in My Etsy Shop.
I will be painting a line of placemats, each will feature different designs and colors. They can also be custom ordered to match your decor.

My first listing is a blue/black placemat with a Fluer De Lis design in opposite corners. The placemats measure 12" x 20". I can also paint a matching table runner. Put a monogram in the center.

The placemats sell for $15 each.
Painted on medium weight canvas using acrylic paint and sealed several times for easy clean up.

sneak peek

Hope everyone is doing well. I thought I would give you a sneak peek at a couple projects I've been working on recently.

The first is a floor runner painted in black, charcoal gray, white and gold. It features fleur de lis details. I hope to have it finished by the weekend and listed in my Etsy shop.

The second sneak peek is a smaller version of the pineapple floorcloth I showcased in a previous post.

I'm also working on some placemat designs and plan to post them in the next few days.

Custom Floorcloth Pineapple Design

Hope everyone is having a wonderful Holiday. I've been busy in the studio.
I had previously posted a willowtree design I painted for a client. Her hubby decided to surprise her with another floorcloth for her dining area. We had already talked about the design and she had planned on placing the order, but later said she didn't think he would spring for another cloth. He emailed me and said to go ahead and paint it and it would be a surprise gift for her this Christmas. She had sent me the wallpaer samples when she sent the sample of the willow tree design. Here is the end result. (I forgot to take a pic of the wallpaper, I'll post it later) The floorcloth measures 5' x 8'.

Etsy Front Page

WOOOHOOOO!! I made it. This floorcloth was featured on Etsy's front page. I was so excited when I got an email from a friend telling me I made the front page.

This helps me gain much needed exposure. My hope is to gain exposure for all makers of Floorcloths. There is a large percentage of the population that has no idea what a floorcloth is. I can't tell you the number of times I've had to explain to someone what a floorcloth is and how they compare with a normal rug.

The new shop is called "StepOnItArt" catchy lil' name isn't it?

I still have my other Etsy shop Vintage Window, but I'll be using it to sell vintage items.

The new shop is dedicated to my floorcloths. Speaking of which I have a few new designs.

New Designs

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday.

I've been busy in the studio painting custom orders and trying out some new designs. I thought I would share some of my new designs with my fellow bloggers.

The first is done in Pink/Black/White a fun whimsical design perfect for a shabby Paris style bathroom or a girls room. It features scrolls, eiffel tower and poodles.

The next floorcloth has a mint green background and black border. The center is filled with white wildflowers w/ yellow accents. This cloth was featured in a treasury on Etsy.

Both can be purchased in my Etsy Shop.
The size shown is 24" x 24" they can be customized to your specific size or colors.

Christmas Floorcloths

I've been busy again. Painting a lot of different items for the holidays. I've also painted a few new Christmas Floorcloth.

The first one I painted for my son and his family. I liked it so much that I decided I would sell a few. They can be personalized to your specific names and colors. They are available in my Etsy Shop, as well as Ebay.

The next cloth I painted in traditional Christmas colors of Red, Green and Gold with a white border. I did one like this for a client a few weeks ago, but it was done in fall colors. I had family in one of the blocks and the other blocks had the family members names. It turned out really cute, so this is a spin off of that cloth, which unfortunately I forgot to photograph before sending it out.

Here are a couple other Christmas designs. They are both available in my etsy shop.

I plan on adding more to my line of floorcloths in the next few months. I want to expand from the traditional styles of floorcloth designs into an array of different styles. The possibilities are endless and I'm game to try just about anything. Since my own personal style changes so often I believe I should have a line of cloths that reflect my choices.

I welcome any ideas or thoughts. :) My son, Bryant, who is a very talented sketch artist, always has great ideas and always willing to share his comments. Phil is also a big help in coming up with new ideas for designs.

Our plans are to launch a new website after the first of the year. I want to have plenty of stock on hand and a variety to showcase.

This floorcloth measures 3' x 7' I will soon be starting on a second cloth for the same client for her dining area using a different set of wallpaper samples. The next floorcloth will be 5' x 8'

It's been busy around here. I've had several orders for floorcloths and placemats. With the holiday season coming upon us, my hope was to fill this blog with some new designs, but lucky for me, I've had orders to fill and not much time to create some new designs.

I thought I would showcase some examples of my coasters.
Snowmen, Flag, Roses and Primitive samples.

They are painted on cotton canvas w/ the hems cemented down. Several coats of sealer are used to protect the painted finish. I also do special orders for custom designs. Price varies by design.

Here are some of the coasters I've painted in a variety of styles. These come in a set of 4 for $18 (Includes S&H). The style you see on the coaster can also be painted as a placemat, floorcloth or table runner.

Komen For A Cure

The third annual "Komen For a Cure" Charity auction will be held the week of Oct.19th - 25th. The charity auctions are held by the Ebay Group P.E.P (Painting Ebay Pretty)

There will be several donated items to bid on this year. Including hand-made, hand-sewn and hand painted. This wonderful group has donated generously in the past to help find a cure for the horrible disease. With your help and the generosity of others together we can fight breast cancer and hopefully one day find a cure.

About Floorcloths

Floorcloths date back as far as 15th century France. They were a popular choice in the 17th & 18th Century Europe and their popularity remains strong in todays decor. Floorcloths are a great option if you want a one of a kind design. A cloth to match your wallpaper, border or favorite china or dinnerware.

Our floorcloths are made from #8 or #10 heavy cotton canvas. I start each cloth with two coats of top quality primer. I use exterior high quality paint for the 2 coats of base colors. I then apply the design using artist acrylics. I apply several coats of polycrylic sealer to ensure you have a well preserved cloth.

Each cloth has a 1" or 2" hem (depending on overall size of cloth) The hem has mitered corners and is cemented down.

Caring for a floorcloth is relatively easy. First you should make sure the area is clean and free of any dirt or debris. Just sweep or use a dust mop. If additional cleaning is needed, use mild soapy water with a damp mop. Vacuum under cloth occasionally.

If your floorcloth is shipped to you rolled, you will want to unroll the cloth and let it come to room temperature to lay flat. May take up to 48 hrs.

Floorcloths are meant for hard-surface floors only. They should not be used over carpeted areas. When furniture is place on floorcloths make sure protectors are used. A skid-resistance mat or tape should be used to keep your floorcloth in place.
